Calling All Volunteers: Help Launch Chess & STEAM Enrichment Programs!

Our PTSA is excited to offer after school enrichment opportunities for our students, but we can’t do it without your help!

  • STEAM After-School Program: Help us bring hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities to life.
    • Starting at the end of February, 1st - 3rd graders will be able to participate in a 4 week STEAM program! Due to volunteer capacity, this program will be open to 10 students, through a lottery. Details on dates, cost and curriculum to come.
    • Do you have a 4th or 5th grader who loves STEAM? Offer to volunteer and we can open it for you too!
  • Chess Club: Does your student love Chess? Did you know PTSA has a turn key chess curriculum for all students? No Chess Experience needed! We just need YOU!
    • If you volunteer with Chess Club, your student automatically is enrolled!
    • You pick the day of the week that works best for you!
    • Free for students!
    • Space is limited, enrollment is selected through lottery.

No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to support and engage with our students!

If you’re interested or have questions, please reach out to Emad. Thank you for helping make these programs possible for our kiddos!

Cougar Ridge Lunar New Year- Friday, January 31st

Come join our Cougar Ridge community as we celebrate the Lunar New Year. Registration will go live at least a couple of weeks before the event. In the meantime, be sure to check out the video our CR Lunar New Year Committee put together for this year's event!

We will have a fashion show on the MPR stage and warmly welcome families from all Lunar New Year countries and ethnicities to showcase their festive attire. If your family is interested in participating, please contact Dora by January 19th.

Calling out families who would like to share how you celebrate Lunar New Year! Please submit a recorded video to Layne by January 19th. These videos will be played as part of the opening video of the Lunar New Year celebration.  If you need inspiration, please watch the first 2-3 minutes of last year's event compilation

Video guidelines:

  1. Please shoot the video in landscape mode (not in portrait mode).
  2. You may share a "Happy Lunar New Year" greeting in your language / dialect. You can also share a quick tradition or how you celebrate Lunar New Year.
  3. We encourage you to wear traditional clothes representing your country / region.
  4. Video length of about 30 seconds or less.
  5. Please send the original / raw video via cloud storage (e.g. Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc) to make sure we can get the best video quality.
  6. Make it fun. :)

Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in helping our Cougar Ridge PTSA? – There are many events you can help with such as Book Fair, Spelling Bee, Chess Club, STEAM Club, Science Fair, Art Fair, Reflections, Bingo, Gift-a-Book, and Staff Appreciation. Support roles are available such as webmaster and liaison to Issaquah Schools Foundation. A wonderful way to meet other parents is to help with Meet the Teacher and Kindergarten Playground Night. If you have a lot of time, please consider the Fundraising Committee. If you have a little time, we need help with the school's emergency supplies. Every role is important and any time you can give us is incredibly valuable and appreciated!  Please reach out to Kim Beaudoin if you would like more info about any of these positions.  We also welcome new ideas on how to support our wonderful community of teachers and students.

Get involved with Cougar Ridge PTSA! – This is a great way to meet other parents in your community and help our amazing school.  We currently have several supportive positions available.  Please contact Kim Beaudoin to find a committee that fits your interests.

Green Team Recycling Tips for December:

The Green Team would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays. With all the gift giving there is also a lot of WASTE.  Think about how you can reduce your footprint by giving gifts with less plastic packaging.  Although wrapping paper, bows and ribbons are beautiful and festive, they create a whole lot of garbage.  Most wrapping paper isn't recyclable.

  • Can you reuse wrapping paper or color a paper bag to make it festive and wrap your gifts in that?!
  • The Green Team repurposed old T-Shirts into gift bags that can be reused.  Find directions on how to make your own here

Be GREEN this season and give gifts with the planet in mind!

If you want to receive a school directory, you must be a PTSA member.  We welcome your support - thank you!
